Focus on the Family Community: Relationships and Marriage: Husband ...

Hi,

?

I was in a similar situation but my husband did not drink or do drugs.? I got married when I was 21 and ended up in divorce when I was 45.? I AM IN NO WAY ENCOURAGING DIVORCE!

?

We went to Christian? therapists with no results then we went to secular therapists with no result.? We would go to the therapy session my husband would deny everything that was a problem and? then he would yep the therapist to death in other words he would agree to do everything the therapist said and we would get home and diiiiiiiiiio exactly as he pleased.

?

He would put me down, call me names, tell me I was fat, swear at me, choke me, try to throw me down the stairs and the list goes on.? I never realized until this very moment that there was not just emotional abuse but physical also.

?

I ended up with severe mental health issues.? I wish I could said I was totally obedient to God and went on in the midst of my circumstances but I did not.? I ended up on alot of psych meds and in and out of the hospital ever couple of months.

?

I just could not take it any more so three kids and 23 years later I divorced him.

?

I remarried to a wonderful guy who was not a Christian.? After the terrible experience with a so called Christian husband what would be the difference.

?

But the story is not over my new husband helped me alot with my mental illness and I was able to come off most of my meds.? But now my second husband began to act in the same manner but worse.? His temper was worse and he drank and did drugs.? I now was at my witts end and had no place to go but up.

?

I began to earnestly pray for my new husband and even left him.? But the Lord answered my prayer and he got saved and came off the alcohol and the drugs.

?

This does not happen to everyone and I would never encourage you to divorce that is between you and God.? But I will encourage you to pray there is power in prayer.? I would also encourage you to get some help with your mental health issues.

?

My second husband has turned out to be the most wonderful and caring Christian man I have ever met and we are happily married.

?

This does not happen alot but there is power in prayer.? Keep praying and keep your eyes on the Lord.

?

Cyndi
